“Canada will not continue with the second wave of tariffs on American goods worth $125 billion until April 2, while we continue working to remove all tariffs”, he writes on X.

A first phase of Canadian retaliatory tariffs on American goods worth $30 billion came into effect on Tuesday. These will remain in force, says a source within the Canadian government to the AFP news agency.

The announcement comes after US President Donald Trump earlier on Thursday announced that the tariffs on goods within the USMCA – the North American free trade agreement negotiated with Canada and Mexico during Trump’s previous term – will be postponed until April 2.
